Pop the Top

Then proceed to install the lower portion of the canvas directly to the rooftop sheet metal of the van. I started in the rear just before the brake light. I had some 1/2" Butyl Tape and decided to put a seal around the whole perimeter of top/canvas seal area. Nothing worse than a cold breeze getting through the cracks all around where you are sleeping...plus this will really help for not getting any moisture between the canvas and sheet metal and inside. This sealed the top very well!

Then position the lower portion of the canvas around the perimeter and push it into the butyl seal. Once everything is in the right postion and good tension on the canvas (remember top ALL THE WAY UP?) Screw the tack strip all the way around

Trim interior canvas

When your done screwing the tack strip around the perimeter. Your left with extra canvas to trim. Take a razor blade (with some new back-up blades, you will need a few throught the process) and proceed to trim along the bottom and top along the inside of the tack strip..make sure not to slice your new canvas! I was praying to the gods hoping this wouldn't happen and I'm lucky to say I pulled it off with no damage! just be careful.

Now it's there

Now it's not

Rooftop AC, or is that just a fan vent?

Mach 8 15,000 BTU Rooftop AC/Heat Pump. Heating and Cooling. Nice option to have when you have shore power. Really nice unit. And the insulated top holds the heat very well.

Nice DIY write up. It is neat to see what all goes into installing a pop-top. Looking forward to the rest of the build.
