I would think you'd want to over design, in other words hit closer to 200lbs then 150 or less over the roof weight. You want gear and snow and spring deterioration to still leave the top up, and sammiches aside you should be able to create more downward force then your weight.

Speaking of engineering, I don't think 250 lbs vertical necessarily translates to 60lbs horizontal...
