It was the hardest part. Only because there are 2 layers to cut through and the spacing of the 2 layers varies from what appears to be zero space on up to 1/2" or so. Before I cut it I kept thinking , "how is this trim ring going to slide in between the layers where they arepressed against eachother?" I figured I would cut out the rough opening, then from the inside I would have to plunge cut the inner layer to make the inner opening larger than the outer but without going through the outer by accident. It turns out, that when you cut through both, they just separate on their own, and there is enough room for the trim ring. It only appears to be "all wrong" from the beginning.
Funny, no matter how many times you put the template back onto the window to check it, and put the window against the van with the cut line drawn to check it, it is still important to understand that you could really make a mess here. It is in some ways (mentally) more difficult than the high top install. The second window will be much easier just because of the experience of the first. The glass shop owner could not have been nicer about giving advice over the phone and even gave me his cell number in case I got in a jam. I actually called him just before I started cutting to ask what his cutting tool of choice was. He said jigsaw with a fine tooth blade and I said good because I had just picked up two packs of 2 fine tooth blades just for the job. I burned up 2 of them on the first window by the way. Having 3 or 4 per window would not be a bad thing at all. The teeth wear out pretty quickly when cutting the 2 layers at once.
