Re: Elvis the Beluga whale under new ownership

found a 05 V10 at the salvage yard that rolled. Got me a new front drivers seat. only thing is wrong with it is the arm rest (which I want) has been pulled off (probably in the accident). so I have to either get into the seat to put a nut on the bolt that holds it on arm rest. or tack weld a bolt in there. anybody ever done this?
anyway, happy about the new seat. ($90)

also got the black covers that are on the inside of the side on the doors $5.

there are a few things I might grab later.
the coolant resivor that is clearer than mine.

Re: Elvis the Beluga whale under new ownership

so I need to get a new brake booster in the rig.
Napa's is $112 and dealer is $264. I am guessing best to stay with OEM. but dam, what a big price difference.

and should I install it? never done one before and little intimidated cause brakes are good to have.

any idea's?

How much more is an upgrade over stock? And how do you know that you need one?

NAPA's new brake components are as good as OEM. Plus, generally the warranty is better too.

Install is pretty straightforward if you keep with vacuum boost. It would be a good opportunity to upgrade to hydroboost though, if you are interested.

not sure what the last part is. Hydraboost? been busy studying so I have not had time to research much
what is new is the vacuum pump. the brake booster was new in box, from previous owner. but I am guessing was bad after all. not fully sure.

dealer is doing tie rod ends and bearing pack and then I am considering a coolant flush and changing to the orange stuff (I think)

any links to explain the hydroboost part would help me search.

Re: Elvis the Beluga whale under new ownership

ok quick search on FTE,
interesting, but I have a new vacuum pump I might as well use now. maybe I can do this later down the road when I can research and know more about it.

kind of spend on funds and need the van working better (Brakes) cause I am towing a car back to OR.

this trip will also complete my Portland to Portland in roughly a months time.

ok I started a little farther north from Portland ME. but close enough

Re: Elvis the Beluga whale under new ownership

also update on stuff

new tie rod ends
track bar bushings
new fuel line and fuel bowl O-rings.

New booster (fixed the brakes )

drives better and now working on insulation the upstairs.

reading up on Prodex and that Reflex (cheaper) stuff you can buy at Lowes. Prodex I have used in my house and works well. claims better R value.

anybody have used it?
I will read on and search more.

Re: Elvis the Beluga whale under new ownership

spending more $ on things.

New GLow plugs on one side as one was bad. and the control module that is under the valve cover. didn't like starting in 32 deg temps, so I needed to nip that in the but before we actually get cold and I need it to start.

like in a ski hill parking lot. (looking fwd to snow)

so spending all this $ that is preventing me to spend any on the inside stuff.

I am planning insulation, but with it getting cold I dont think the glue will take to well on the fiber glass/insulation stuff. so planning on waiting till spring.

still on the fence on what route I want to go with.

been reading up on that link at http://www.camperize.com/hightops.html

I like the Prodex stuff, but he say's there is off gassing.

so might do bubble wrap stuff with 3/4 closed cell phone board. then cover it with carpet.
any thoughts? the foam board will be lined.

Re: Elvis the Beluga whale under new ownership

found some water after a snow/rain session down by my feet. so I am hoping a new windshield will cure that problem.
but looks like its been going on for a while as the area by the side hump is well rusted. so I have added to that of the spring summer list to do things. which is getting long.

to cold to paint things now.

anybody else have rust issues in that area? (what was the cause). I had trouble actually following the water trail.
