i was told cargos with rear heat/air are rare, so was happy to find out my van had the option. would never even think of getting rid of it. i say keep it.

On hot days, I will run the front and rear AC even if I'm the only one in the van. Cools the van down nicely. I vote keep it.

I'm beginning to see a pattern here...
Thanks for the input on this. Its been on my mind quite a bit. Given the input I believe that I'll keep the system.

I looked and looked and yes, they are rare. I ended up with a no interior window van with the rear ac.
There's just no way i could imagine keeping the back of the van at temp without a rear unit. even in my expedition we have to use the rear unit.

I have rear a/c but no heat. Really wish it came with it because I frequently have 3 or more passengers on board. I'm boiling up front while they have winter jackets on sitting in the captains seat just behind me. I don't have a furnace either - I really need to come up with a solution I guess. Has anyone ever retro-fit a heater core type system into a Danhard rear a/c?

You don't want it, it's horrible. Send it to me and I'll happily toss it in the back of my van for disposal.
Lol

Ok, with the decision to keep said system....Has anyone done a heat exchanger system for hot water by tapping into this rear heat system? It would seem a relatively easy task. Granted I would probably opt for having a hot water tank as well as a cold water tank (10gal hot/15gal cold) and 2 pumps (one for circulation and the other for the system pressure). But it eliminates the complexity and related expense of a hydronic system. Then I could just use an Espar D2 for cabin heat. Is this crazy talk?
I know this is a tangent but most definitely in tune with my thought process. I've also had enough whisky this evening to release my uninhibited creativity.

I have not done it, but I agree it should be very easy. The coolant lines at the floor are rubber, and there's enough extra slack to cut and add some Tees. Or run them in series. There's so much hot coolant running through the system, you could run both off one loop IMO. I'd probably go heater first, then into the hot water exchanger, so the hot water isn't too hot. The coolant even back there is still very much at engine temp. If you need hotter water, just turn off the blower for a bit.
