MSD, I'll give you props as well. I've followed your posts, and was very excited, but my need for the 30" took me to fiberine.

Thanks
Looking forward to seeing the 30" top build out.
It's gonna be a pretty sweet rig.

Doing a 30" super camper build right now as well. Had a couple pop tops previous, as well as a fixed, for me and my " must have" list and where I live, the fixed top is the best choice.
There's a couple threads on here and expo going over lots of the pros and cons.

If mpg are not an issue then absolutely a fixed hightop.
If mpg are an issue, the motor choice was poor.
I don't want to sound like an ass, but I've driven 5.4 vans and they are gutless compared to either the V10 or diesels... which can easily handle the weight and still provide mpg.
My current rig is getting a solid 21.5 mpg here in the flats of Fl...
My point is, before you start investing a serious amount of money into a van maybe it's time to reconsider a different van with a different drivetrain.

good points for sure, but a new van at this point is def not in the cards, err checkbook. If I could have gotten a diesel at time of purchase, I would have for sure, and now the ford has moved to the horribly ugly transit, im kinda stuck.
My real regret is having the suspension re-done, raising it another couple inches, and not improving the ride at all. If I could take it back down a couple inches (easily), I think I would.

@e-rex
Exactly. Number of uses is my thought also. I live it it much of the year so that's not too hard for me to swallow, but I really don't like throwing g money away.
If I could have one for 3k, I'd write a check tomorrow, but 5 plus painting costs....
Plus I have yet to find anyone in near ky that will install one, even if I got it salvage. I'd drive just about anywhere at this point(including long Beach CA, as my current plans are)

Hah I won't respond to the comments about v10 and mileage. But at least the power delivery is better on the v10 with similar mileage.
My main advice would be to not think about the money. It's a vehicle, a depreciating asset and not an investment. If it's going to make you more comfortable, make the van more enjoyable and make you get out more, do it and don't look back.

There have to be places in Indiana that will install a fixed top. There are at least two top manufacturers there and tons of conversion companies. I researched top fabricators a couple of years ago.

Fixed top worth it? Worth what? All depends on what you what and what you can afford.

Definitely check out what MSD is doing. I believe he is much closer to your price range, and Fort Collins is closer than Long Beach!
MSD, are you doing any installs?
