Dang! that's somewhat the idea. I am dreaming big here of course. What I am thinking is some place between an ambulance and a classic SMB. Some things I would want to do:

Frame like a roll cage.

Somewhat squared up body that would be closer to 78 wide inside so you could stick a proper bed sideways.

Utilize below the frame and outside the frame rails for storage and systems.

Pop top with a "non-janky" lift system. I like the loft thing.

Imagine the possibilities!!! I know, just a big daydream.

Just so I can dream it a little more, I emailed Ford Body Builders to see if they will shoot me some cad files of the frame and Cab and some other stuff. I guess it's kind of at their discretion. I pleaded my case as I own 4 Fords. Hopefully that get's me a frame IGS file at least

Something about a custom axle installed with a fresh coat of still wet looking glossy black paint makes me feel so warm inside...

Don't worry about your wallet, once you go for your first ride in it you'll forget you even spent the money...

Money comes and goes, time only goes. I just want to make the most of my time and this is one hell of a way to do it. The belt is tighter, but this is a dream!

Seriously though, I have been looking at SMB's for a decade or more and saying "one day". a little windfall and some life changes made me realize that the time is now. Buy a van and give the dream some traction, send it to El Cajon and give the dream 4 wheels of traction. It's getting real in a hurry.

Corny, I know. I'm done being cool, I just want to go camp in my van and see the West!!

I totally agree and as corny as it may be, your right.

I am looking forward to using my van to take my son and wife around the country once he's a little older and really just enjoy the simple life for short periods of time. Its easy to get caught up in the stuff that doesn't matter and I am hoping this van will be our escape from the "real world".

For now I will just continue to read the trip reports over on the expo forum and live through their adventures ha ha.

I wish I could hang around and watch them build up the front end. I am terrible at this stuff and really want to learn. I'm sure John would boot me out after one hour of questions.
