Hey where is WVvan lately he would mount it the rear corner and build some PWM controlled fan thing to blow heat evenly around the van.

I've been following this thread with interest but have no experience with propane furnaces. I did have one safety comment but Jage beat me to it. We both had the exact same idea except around here the quicky marts are called "Circle K" or BFS (Bruceton Farm Service).
(We need a "something blowing up" animated gif for times like these.)

furnace placement
Bigvans, Lol! Thanks for your support!
Jamie, not a bad idea but probably not very effective. This is a direct discharge only anyway, a 7912 I think. I really don't want to fool with ducting, hence the whole reason I wanted this little compact, direct discharge unit. I could've gotten a good deal on a ducted unit, they are much more common, but I'm trying to keep it simple here.
I'm gonna be working on the van and laying out this cabinet this weekend. If it doesn't work out above the drivers side wheel well/rear air duct as is now the plan, it will have to go under the dinette in the back.

Re: furnace placement
I'm reluctant to publicly recommend that anybody build a van not in compliance with RVIA standards. Do it at your own risk.
The advantages of a front mounted furnace are faster heating, easy to dry out wet clothes, and easy to remove for servicing. The disadvantages are very noisey when sleeping, takes up prime storage space, and fire safety hazard.

Dhally, thanks. I got it worked out this weekend. I'm about 3.5' from my filler, and about 1' higher. The vent will be right above the left wheel well right in the center of it, 10" from the floor. It's not going to give me as clean a look as I was after, but I'll be in compliance, and it's still forward enough to be a lot closer to the center of the van than in the very back.
I'll post pics soon.
Thanks for the help

Re: furnace placement
On top of the wheelwell isn't an ideal location, but it does work. We left the space under the furnace (between the wheelwell and the aisle) open. It is a great place to store extra shoes. A couple of small bungees keep them from migrating.

The furnace is well insulated, they don't even get warm.
But, the refrig, directly across the aisle, gets the full benefit of the furnace output! Just don't open the door when the furnace is on!

yep, mine will be too. I'll have to make sure I don't melt the fridge!
Also, I'm putting a big drawer under there instead of leaving it open. It'll be one of my 3 precious drawers. With my kids, whatever I do, shoes will always be in the middle of the floor.
