How much does fugly affect value?
I'm considering selling my van, but it's got an ugly exterior from all the adventures it's been on and I don't know that will affect the value.
The van is a 2001 Ford e350 EB with a fixed hightop and Quigley 4wd,powerstroke 7.3 powerstroke diesel, solar, fridge, etc.
I think i know how to price this van, except for the discount for the exterior appearance. This van has ben from the arctic circle to the guatemalan border and has lots of souvenirs to show for it. Lots of scratches and scuffs, rock chips on the hood, paint flaking from stock bumpers, and a couple of dents on the front passenger Utah. No rust.
Any thoughts?
BTW - located in Salt Lake city, utah.

I’d say it matters far less than rust. Doing bed liner respray is affordable and relatively easy on a van, and will cover most of that up. You don’t even need to sand the bondo.

Need to sell as is
Thanks for the advice on cleaning it up, but due to health reasons I probably need to sell as is.

Just my 2 cents, most buyers of these vans are going after a certain “look” and if your van is lacking in aesthetics then the price will certainly take a hit. My best guess is take the “clean” van value and expect an offer from $3000 to $10,000 less depending on your van’s particular cosmetic challenges.

I'm probably not a typical buyer, in that appearance has virtually no direct impact on how I would value a vehicle, so take with a grain of salt. BUT, buying used means taking a gamble on how well the previous owner(s) took care of the van and how much stress they exposed it to. A messed up exterior would be a proxy for assuming there's likely to be other non-aesthetic problems. The more documentation you can dig up proving that it was otherwise well-cared-for, the better, perhaps including a thorough 3rd party inspection report.

Great advice, especially the 3rd party inspection report.

It will make the sale completely impossible unless you knock like 75% off the market comp. But I can help you out and I'm willing to pay 50% of market comp. Maybe, send me some pics.
