Thanks for all the help. I'm starting to get a better understanding of what I can do.

Re: I desperately need bed ideas!

If you happen to end up with any type of bed that includes a solid platform/wood/etc (hinged or permanent) be sure to check out the Froli Sleep System. You simply put together these plastic + and springs and then place them on the platform. They can be any size seats/benches and then put your gell foam topper and you have one of the best sleep systems money can buy. We have one in our full time 38' 5th wheel and our van conversion. Here is a shot i took of part of what we have in the van:

Best wishes on your build.

Re: I desperately need bed ideas!

A bit unconventional, but it works great for us is using two hammocks. I love sleeping in a hammock anyway, so it works great for me, and my wife is OK with it, so that's fine for now. Leaves us loads of room, as you can imagine. We hang them up in an x pattern, one above the other. Some hammocks will stretch a bit, so that's something to watch too, you can end up on top of one another, or on the floor after a few hours.
I could post a picture, or details if anyone is interested.

Re: I desperately need bed ideas!

Ok, going back to my ORIGINAL question, I have figured out what I wanted and have made the bed. Here is the link to my build if you're interested.

Thanks to the East Coast Ground Up build post for the idea. It's a great way to save space and still have a bed big enough for two.

And about hanging hammocks in the van, cool idea for one, but man...lol

Re: I desperately need bed ideas!

Eh, well, different strokes for different folks. For us, the van has to wear every hat. Being able to transport loads of climbers, and loads of plywood. A ton of rocks (I've had better ideas) and also be able to load things in the back with a forklift at work. Recently, we had a handful of climbers playing cards and talking the usual smack while waiting out a rainstorm on a camping trip, all the while surrounded by all our gear. All the hats, all the time. Besides, I love the hammocks.
These vans are amazingly versatile, right? I think it's fantastic that there is so many ways to make it all happen.
