Re: i have a question on this back seat style

Note that the width of the inset space depends on where it falls in your wall layout, as there are certain sidewall supports that can't be cut in the van. The pic above shows a smaller inset, while the pic at the start of the thread shows a wider version.

If you are doing a self-build, get the Ford guide for aftermarket builders that shows which ribs can be cut and which can't. I think this document is on the forum wiki. I have one for a 98 Ford if you can't find your answer.

Question on these sidewall insets. My van has the same seat arrangement but without the sidewall insets. Looks like a good addition. We have a Ford 1995 EB. Are these insets sheet metal with carpet on them? I wonder if SMB has them available.

I haven't opened them up, but I'll bet they are wood framed. The width of the inset varies with the width of the dinette, so my guess is wood.

The ones in my 89 are 1/8" plywood with a thin velour fabric wrap.

Thanks for the info. This looks like a DIY project to gain a few more inches. We sleep in the penthouse but nap below.

My 98 SMB has them wood-framed and wrapped with headliner fabric.

Re: i have a question on this back seat style

Another member posted his SMB in the ads section. He had a nice home-build dinette option. It looks like it uses the table as a center base. The table top drops down to the strip ledge. Much easier to build than one with sliding tracks. I can't find his post to give him props, but I snagged a screen-grab for future reference. It is attached.
