I need to lose some weight.

Want to lighten the load. I'm going to try to sell the awning, which I have never used.

May remove two of my four house batteries. I'll counter my survivalist instincts.

Will probably stop hauling my Honda 2000 generator everywhere.

Then, I'll go through the rolling garage of parts and stuff that my van has become.

After that, I may re-assess my internal configuration and possibly do a Version 3 interior build.

I will not ditch the solar panel, fridge or anything else vital, but I'd like to lose a few hundred pounds via the lowest hanging of low-hanging fruit.

Any suggestions?

Paul

Generator and two batteries ought to do it. Send me the awning for, um, weight testing.

It might be easier to just add some power to the motor or lower gears, then you can keep all your stuff.

I have enough power to satisfy my needs - it's the tranny I worry about. I have the smaller tranny. Just had to have it rebuilt at about 115,000 miles. Maybe that's within specs? I don't know, but I just thought it might ease the load to lose some weight. The rest of my drivetrain is bulletproof, all things considered. That's my weak link. I wish I could install a Torqueshift, but it would be complex and risky, at best.

4r75e tranny I'm guessing? It's actually a pretty strong tranny from what I've heard.

How much does your rig weigh now?

two batteries and your generator will drop 250 lbs. probably but that's just the weight of a person.....or two.

Send me your spare batteries for........um.......weight testing. I'll test the generator too.

It's such a relief to know that there are so many certified "weight testers" on this board. What a community!

Yeah, it's the 4r75e. I actually like it and I drive like an old lady and it lasted that long. It died after going over a serious pass near El Paso last year. Got it rebuilt at a local shop and they fortified it a bit. I guess I just need to live with it and not keep looking over my shoulder, so to speak. When it goes again, I'll get a rebuild.

Last I weighed, it came in at around 9200 pounds.

I think you're fine. There are lots of service vans on the road that are heavily loaded and constantly pulling trailers, lots more with the 5.4/4r75e combo than diesel or v10 by far I'd say. I think you're probably just a bit paranoid since it just pooped on you, which is understandable. In my opinion you'd have to drop thousands of lbs. to make a difference to the tranny. If it's in good shape and being maintained (which yours no doubt is for many miles to come) I'd just keep rolling. You'll get more comfortable with it.

Have you upgraded the stock trans cooler?

I have a 4R75 and just put the Tru-Cool 45K in...installation was very straightforward except for finding fittings to go from 3/8" inverted flare male to 1/2" barb....that was a PITA....and had to do it with two fittings.

Could you give me the specific Tru-Cool model number you used? I have a 4R75E, and I'm currently planning a 4x4 conversion. This might be a perfect time to install a Tru-Cool.

It looks like they have two 45,000 BTU models--the LPD4739, which includes a cold weather bypass, and the LPD47391, which does not. Which one did you choose?

Thanks-
Bianca
