So, my approach was that instead of spending thousands of dollars on an Aluminess bumper, I bought a WIY kit from Move Bumpers and justified the purchase of an ESAB EM215ic (MIG-only) + gas canister. Two birds with one stone.
It's taken much longer than had I just bought the bumper, but in the end I'll have a van that looks a little different than every other van, a MIG welder, and some experience.
