Loncoin install

So, I have the OEM carpet pulled out of my van and I'm getting ready to install some plywood flooring. I have the coin style flooring ordered to go over the plywood and it should arrive shortly. Is it recommended to use the good quality birch plywood with the really smooth surface, or can I get buy with a less expensive grade ply?

Re: Loncoin install

I would use a acx shop(sanded one side) it will be 1/2 the price of the birch. Dave

Re: Loncoin install

Thanks Dave. I ended up buying some 5 ply Poplar at $40 per sheet.

Nick, I ordered from this place.... http://www.rubberflooringinc.com/garage ... nants.html

I have an RB and so I only need 10 feet and they have a 10 foot increment available for $142 shipped. It's only available in grey though in that size which works fine for me.

Re: Loncoin install

There is another recent thread around here about gluing coin flooring down with contact cement....it didn't end well, and required lots of effort to clean up the goo.......

As it turns out, I was one of the knuckleheads that recommended contact cement......YMMV........

I think JWA recommended some other specialty cement that's for this application specifically.

Re: Loncoin install

Thanks Boywonder. Lucky for me I read that thread. I bought some stuff that I think is comparable. It sounds like the key is that it needs to be a "releasable bond" type of adhesive. The stuff I bought is Henry 650R.

I used a Roberts adhesives product #2077 they designate as "pressure sensitive carpet tile adhesive". My carpet tiles were a commercial grade, very heavy backing that is very similar to solid vinyl flooring. After almost 3 years in use it works just fine, has allowed me to re-position several tiles over that time.

What impresses me most is the half a gallon I had left over is still sloshing around in its original container---I fully expected it to cure into a chunk long before now. Of course since it never really dries or cures I guess this is normal for this type carpet/flooring material.
