Re: My build so far

I used the holes that are already in the door and put a 2" bolt and washer through it, then I ran a nut and washer on the outside of the door and used locktite to secure the nut/bolt. Because the inner and outer door is so deep I could use a wrench to hold the bolt in place. I took a piece of cardboard and pushed it over all four bolts and used it as a template to drill the holes in the back of the cabinet.

Once the holes were drilled I pushed the cabinet on the bolts and ran another set of washers/nuts and used locktite once again. Then I used a dremel and cut off the excess bolt.

Does that make sense? I can't promise it was the right way, and I haven't put it to use yet other than opening and shutting the door---and it seems to work fine.

Let me know if you have questions or want pics. I didn't take any as I was doing it, but can set up the same idea on the back doors if you want.

Re: My build so far

nice work 2horse, i like your attention to detail, clean.

are you planning on converting to 4x?

I have been working on my e350 15passenger in attempt to do the same (we're campers and needed more space for dog, kids & their guests, etc. but want to get off the grid and hope to convert this spring w/quad van in portland. it's a heap of $, but want if for the shear pleasure of not having to always camp w/the masses. so, don't know if you've done any research...
i'm in the mostly learning phase since i started this process a little more than a month ago (with a little doing) and these posts really help.

i'll keep watching and learning as it looks like you will be adding all the stuff i'm researching: roof rack, bumpers, aux power, interior, etc.

thanks again,
dave

"Paint".... Couldn't really deal with the creepy van white. I had the whole thing sprayed with gun metal grey plasti-dip and the windows tinted.

Re: My build so far

I'm going to plasti-dip my van also. Just makes so much more sense than traditional paint. Great choice.

Incredible!
You have done a great job and have given me some great ideas. I love the tool box as a cabinet...definitely what I will be doing.
Never heard of Plasti-dip...awesome....

Thanks,
Steve.

Re: My build so far

Thank you all. The plasti-dip is pretty simply all in all. I did not spray it, but it required almost no prep. It really is designed to just peal off...so no sanding. Just a good washing. The really cool part is if its scratched, just apply a dab of paint thinner and rub lightly until scratch is gone.
