Re: My build so far… REconstructing

sweet floor! any chance you know of a source for the sound barrier used on the floor? i just ran a preliminary search through H. Depot and it seems it's not available in this (denver/ littleton) market.

also, any chance you got a peak behind those beautiful walls? i'm having a heck of a time coming up with a game plan for my wall layering/ insulation system. some glue Reflectix directly to the metal walls while others use rigid foam board. and recently someone mentioned the need for an airspace between the Reflectix and the metal wall of the vehicle. Vanworks, an outfit in fort collins, uses pink R13 insulation in their walls but i don't understand how they adhere/ secure it.

i'm really just making this up as i go and it seems everyone else is as well.

i'll get some pictures up soon.

Re: My build so far… REconstructing

I bought the insulation/sound material for the floor base at Lowes on south wadsworth... near bike source and ski and golf...

I didn't "see" behind the walls but what ever you use will only be as good as the air it can trap--- so if you use pink stuff and squish it down its not as effective. The foamboard certainly works but is tough to contour.
Reflectix worked for me, and would have left it had I not done the other work.

Made some progress today on the dinette and cabinets…. Fingers crossed that I can wrap up the cabinets and get the staining complete tomorrow.

Re: My build so far… REconstructing

Here is the cabinet that will go between the barn doors and the dinette. Cutting the back to match wall caused a little brain damage, but its working out ok… Hopefully I don't F up the doors.

Re: My build so far… REconstructing

Fairly productive weekend. Slow and steady wins the race, right? I screwed a few things up and learned some along the way. I will get some details of lessons learned later this week.

Re: My build so far… REconstructing

If you're as anal about fitting panels to the various bump outs and other irregularities of a van's interior that process can certain tax the gray matter and patience too.

I've purchased all sorts of pattern making tools to do cardboard mock ups before cutting the plywood and FRP panels. Those have a learning curve so that sucks up some time too.

I'm in process of re-installing a rear heater only unit to accommodate other changes to my cargo-only work van. Once one portion is finished something better occurs and then the mental battle begins; change it or move on? I've spent probably 40 actual hours trying to successful fit just two panels in place, almost done---I think?!? Oh well---its more fun doing this than I care to admit otherwise I'd just have left the van completely bare.

That's nice looking cabinet work BTW.
