New guy and planning a DIY

Long time lurker but just signed up, have always wanted a sportsmobile RB diesel with the penthouse top. Try as I might I cannot afford one of these glorious machines. So I am going to build my own though not nearly as well equiped.

I have had several vans the current one being my favorite so far. Its a 95 E150 eclipse lunar package conversion luxury cruiser. After much research into 4wd conversions I found that the ford E series from the 70's to ??? (95 included) are the easiest to convert due to the platform sharing of the F series 4wd pickups. I am going to use the twin traction beam front axle assembly because with the factory parts from an F-150 its 100% bolt in. Then a 4x4 automatic and transfer case from a bronco because they are bolt in/plug in. With custom drive shafts being the only non ford factory drive train parts.

We live in colorado and enjoy the mountains and all our recreation here as well as the entire western us. We have a couple small 4x4 rock crawlers that we tow around to various difficult trails and when the weather permitting camp in the van. We have a 4x4 pickup that we use when the road conditions are bad or about half the year. The problem being no matter where we are going we would ALWAYS rather take the van than the truck. So the plan is to make the van be both the truck and the camper as it suits our needs most. Eventually I hope to get a penthouse top on our rig and round it out as the closest I can get to reall thing untill I can actually get one.

My name is John and its nice to meet you folks

There's a shop in Lafayette called "Boulder Off Road" that does 4x4 van conversions. His name is Don and he says he's got a buddy working on a popup top. I haven't talked to him in a while so I'm not sure how it's going.

Sounds good, can't wait to see how it turns out! From what it sounds like you plan to do, I wouldn't recommend the TTB front end. Go solid axle. It more reliable, stronger, has more traction devices available, and won't eat tires & need alignments all the time.
