new project-off road trailer

I picked up my new/next project. I like to think of it as an accessory for my van. It will be a nice off road trailer when it's done. The trailer is a 1 TON "ben hur" military trailer.

That is some serious BEEF. That frame and those tires are monstrous.

I'm working on one too, but this interior build is taking so much time. It's a 73 truck bed trailer with a 8-lug full floater axle riding on 35 A/T's. What kind of receiver ser-up are you going to use?

Re: new project-off road trailer

I want to switch it over to a pintle hook style. They look cool and are suppose to have better articulation. Then the plan will be to add a spare tire, shovel, ax, gas/water cans, some kind of removable, lockable cage over the top and then paint it to match the van. My hope is to have something similar to this.

If it isn't too much of a pain, you may want to consider an axle swap. Imagine how sweet it would be to carry two spare tires that matched your van AND your trailer!

That would be cool. The trailer has a neat set up on it right now though. it has drum breaks on it and then on the right side of the trailer is a break lever to engage them and lock the trailer. I would have to try to swap that over as well.

Cable is a cable, just like your parking brake now... any rear axle swap should be able to be used, as opposed to a trailer axle that has electric brakes and no cable to set them.

By itself the trailer looks small. But it really makes your van look like a minivan when they are together!

That is a monster trailer!

yeah, it really makes me want to hurry up and get my van lifted. The trailer is only 4'x8' but those 20" rims and tires really make my van look small.
