New to the group and questions about parts interchange

Hi, new to the group here, I have been lurking for a while and gleaning info, I am building up a 1990 E350 2x4, it was a conversion van then got stripped to be a cargo van and now I am building it up for my needs as a musician/camping with the family. I will be posting up photos and stuff later.

My question is this, I have access to a 1999 E350 for parts... is there anything that I can or should get from this van that might work on my 1990. I am looking at bench seats for sure with the brackets so I can configure to my needs, just wondering if there is anything else I could use... the engine is blown everything else is there. Just wondering, any experience with this kind of thing?

Thanks in advance.

Re: New to the group and questions about parts interchange

There are drastic differences in the 90 (or pre 92) and the 99 (post 92). It was a complete redesign as I understand it. I'm not a suspension expert so there may be some parts there which are interchangeable if you need them, but i think pretty much everything else (body, interior) is different. I'm not even sure the bench seats will swap out, but someone here can answer I'm sure.

Good luck!

You might also try posting on the Ford Van forum, if you haven't already. Lots of good info over there.

Re: New to the group and questions about parts interchange

Pretty much it's all different. The seats will swap since they bolt to the floor anyways. But even the seat brackets are not compatible. Nothing on the chassis is the same except for some basic frame dimensions. You might be able to swap in some transmission mechanicals but the valve body and controls is completely different. I have seen somebody swap a newer dash into an old-body van. Completely custom but he made it fit.

Re: New to the group and questions about parts interchange

OK this is pretty much what I figured... It looks to me like the quick release brackets unbolt from the floor and could be bolted down in anything with the floor space, Is there something I am not seeing? I have only seen pictures so I could be wrong, Is there a recessed slot under the mounting brackets? Hmmm....

Thank you all for the replies!

Re: New to the group and questions about parts interchange

The floor bracket locations have some backer plates under the floor. Yes, you can put them anywhere, but you will also need to put a backer in the new location, so the bolt won't pull through in a crash.
