Overhead console?

I'm thinking about redesigning my overhead console- scrapping the prefitted SMB version and just going with light wood, probably stained (as opposed to upholstered)

Goals are:
1. route wiring (got a mass of wires in both shelves currently)
2. access wiring and fuses (currently hard to reach fuses, impossible to check)
3. flush mount CB (currently mounted below)
4. restore visors (CB is wider than visors)
5. protect wiring (I've put a visor screw through CB antenna before)
6. doors on console storage (nothing like having pack of 12 batteries crack you in the forehead when offroad)

For other reasons I'm taking out my entire overcab structure as well, so I might as well do the console right.

That said... any material and construction ideas?

Re: Overhead console?

Must have you confused w another member. I thought your present overhead was made by you. Sounds like a great project. Great because it is one I have been rolling around in the back of my mind.

How about some other member pics of ones they have made and list the positive and negative things about them in hind sight.

Have fun

Re: Overhead console?

Other than the unbelievable PITA that you are looking at, be aware that the acoustics in the cab are gonna be DRAMATICALLY altered with a wide band of un-upholstered wood right at the top of your head. The rattle-and-snap of that 6.0 is gonna be a huge feature in your aural world.

"Sorry Kim, wadja say?"

"I SAID LISTEN TO TWOGONE NEXT TIME, JEREMIAH... NOW TAPE SOME OF THESE TOWELS ON THE DAMN CONSOLE !!"

Re: Overhead console?

LeadDoggy made an overhead console. See top of page 3 of his photos and bottom of page 2 for details.

Twogone has a good point. My simple solution would be to take my hearing aids out. That wouldn't help Jo though.
