Passenger side swivel seat mount
Thinking about buying a swivel seat mount for my passenger side. What is the proceedure to turn it around? does it just clear the dog house/B pillar? or do you have to slide it forward a bit then turn a bit then slide back and turn a bit etc etc
Thanks
Luke

Re: Passenger side swivel seat mount
Yes to all the above- plus you need to put the seatback up as well... On mine, it has to be in just the right spot, then it spins right around.

Re: Passenger side swivel seat mount
Any chance it can be done with the person in the seat?

Re: Passenger side swivel seat mount
Unlikely. With the seatback all the way up, the front of the seat just clears the engine doghouse. We can't swivel ours unless the passenger side door is open.

Re: Passenger side swivel seat mount
In my home-made ones I can swivel seated in both passenger and driver seats:
1. put my legs in the center of the van
2. slide seat forwards
3. tilt seat back forwards
4. turn to desired angle
5. recline seat back again

Saabman,
I covet those seat swivel adapters you found for your Chevy.

This is where I found them:

Did you see my gallery with the mods I had to do?
If you wan't we could always check with AndrewST (travels for his home-brew build to the US) if something could be organised...
Otherwise you could always look at http://www.discountvantruck.com

Re: Passenger side swivel seat mount
I'm thinking of putting a swivel on the base of my Ford's passenger seat. If I recall correctly, the swivel base that SMB uses must be rotated 180deg (assuming you want the passenger door to close!). Is this correct?
And if it is correct, is there a brand of swivel bases that allows rotation to any angle? I know Saabman was able to achieve this with Iveco bases and modification, but I'd like to find a simpler route.
Thanks!

Re: Passenger side swivel seat mount
I can rotate my seat with the door closed. But, I have to shift the seat forward and back on the base to do that. Or the seat hits the door and the seatback hits the doghouse while turning.
My SMB base will swivel to any degree of rotation you want. But, it only locks in position at 180 degrees. And, for all practical purposes that is the desired rotation. Much more or less rotation and the seatback will hit the door or the doghouse when you try to recline it to a more comfortable position.

Re: Passenger side swivel seat mount
Thanks. Maybe I should head over to SMB next week and play with one of the seat swivels. They may have changed brands since long ago (or I might just be remembering incorrectly).
I assume that adding a base swivel just takes a good set of socket wrenches and the ability to lift the passenger seat. Anything other tools?
Thanks!
