Kidding aside, in general I think the forum does help people make more educated decisions before money is spent, and most members are more than willing to share their experiences of money that was not well spent, that may prevent others from going down the same path.

No pics yet. He is working on getting the mold built. The style target is blend of Safari Condo top with the Explorer van leading edge which is more vertical off the windshield. The vertical few inches helps with the front lift mechanism, then goes to a more flat (vs curved) profile to the rear like the Safari Condo. (Have some pics some where)

Explorer Van leading edge pics:
Safari Condo for rest of profile to rear. SC differs from curved contours of the Explorer van roof line which has more of a hump through the mid section. Derek liked the flatter rear section for the rear lift mechanism.

Re: Penthouse Pop-Top Comparo? (CCV vs SMB)

Then this is the little twist we are adding via a heavy duty pickup bed slide, so no outside supports, extends about 38" out the back of the pop top above the rear doors.

We will have this capability plus the ability to use the upper bed in normal traditional fashion - all inside. By extending the bed platform out the back it will open the interior space up much more and allow the bed to remain made up, for when one of us likes to sleep in. The bed is two (maybe three section), so during the day it can be moved to have full height front to rear with bedding folded over on itself out the back.
Lastly, the extension provides for an "awning" over the rear doors and, maybe, the ability to have an outside shower, doors closed, with curtain hanging from it, even if go with the Aluminess rear bumper w /Swing arms.

Right now it is still a work in process for a few weeks. Any one who has suggestions, comments, etc. Please share them (nicely)

thanks you!

Ray

Cool stuff Ray. I know Derek has experimented some with slideouts/etc. That will be really unique. I like the lines of that top too, even better than my old top on Tryptovan (the blue van).

Can't wait to see that new top. Seems like it will be a nice compromise between the high top and the TV style top.

Love the top slide-out. Great use of space and accomplishes multiple tasks by providing the roof over the rear doors. Awesome!

It was an excellent idea, but it didn't work out.. Ray can chime in as to why, but I think he might be hiking somewhere off the grid.
