Thanks for clarification. I had same concern over sleeping bags hanging near the heater vent cover inside. Didn't realize the heater exhaust could burn the van door (hot enough to bubble paint?) if you have it opened over that outlet. I will keep that in mind.

The Suburban Furnace installation manual suggests doors not be allowed to close closer than 6" over the exhaust vent. SMB installs a door stop - probably for this reason. There are lots of other restrictions for furnace clearance. My layout did not get adequate review up front by SMB's QC Department and as a result a storage door and adjoining space were nixed at the last minute because they were too close to the furnace. No matter. Safety first (I really didn't think I would be storing anything flamable next to heater, despite the access door).
