push out van windows

I just added a push out rear window to my 89 Ford E150 today. The person that had it before me removed one of the fixed rear barn door windows and put in a room air conditioner. I would rather have he view instead of the noise.

At he junk yard I had the choice of fixed or push out windows. Since I needed the gasket too I opted for he push out window because the gasket was much easier to take out. The window came out with six Phillips head screws. Four at the top hinge and two in that hold the operator to the door. There is a plate inside the door that has two threaded holes in it that the operator screws go into. You have to reach inside the door to hold plate as you unscrew he operator screws.

Unscrew the operator first, then open the window all the way open. Once you get it level with the top of the van it will come out of the upper hinge. Hold on tight so you do not drop it.

You will need to take he gasket as well because the gaskets on the push out windows are different than he fixed windows.

I paid $30 for the window and gasket. It was easy to install. You may want to put a dab of butyl rubber around the upper screws when you install it to keep the rain out.

This would seem to be good news for my idea of opening them further than standard... but no too far to avoid them popping out...

The hinge is not The pin and barrel type that you see on doors. It is more like two interlocking C's with one facing up and one facing down. You will need to modify the handle mechanism at the bottom of the window to open them further.

Re: push out van windows

I am building a 2010 Chevy Express AWD cargo van into our basic camping unit. I also wanted the tilt out windows. The tilt out windows were only available on the passenger version of the van. I located a passenger van on Craigslist being parted out. The van was a 6 hour drive away but the seller gave me a great deal for making the drive. Got the two back doors and side doors for $150.00 for all. The best part is they were the same color. To install I drove out the hinge pins and repined on my van - quick & easy. The door dimensions and hinges are very precise from the factory so the fit & finish was good. Also, new windows on the rear doors are electrically defrosted. The plastic interior door trim covers the entire frame which is nice. I currently have the interior door panels of the they can be templates for having snap in place interior window screens made. Good luck - hope this helped.
