Re: Quadvan Upgrades/Modifications etc....

Thanks Ocsmb, after all these years it's a habit.

I have a project coming up that requires shooting in a warehouse. Thinking about puling the van in when we are done and lighting it up and see what happens.

Nice job! This might be on my list if the steering stabilizer does not solve my ride problem.

Re: Quadvan Upgrades/Modifications etc....

I'll check on the stabilizer brackets today and see if there is a name on them. It was on there when I bought the van from Quadvan.

A steering stabilizer should not really improve anything except the steering. On a vehicle with steering component problems it can help to mask the problems but is not really a fix.

On a vehicle that has no steering component problems, they are really used to minimize feedback through the steering components to the driver when obstacles contact the tires and force them to turn.

What exactly is your "ride problem"?

Death wobble above 60 and it is a bit bouncy. I have read several post about the stabilizer helping with the death wobble, have not research the bouncy issue yet.

Steering stabilizer can help mask DW problems, but there is something else causing them - worn components, tires...

Is it a QuadVan also?

Re: Quadvan Upgrades/Modifications etc....

Salem Kroger - 2000 EB - 114k - 4" lift. Brand new tires and just aligned. Driving on the roads of San Diego it rides fine but when I dove it back from Sacramento it scared the crap out of, those roads are rough and it was all over the place. Steering wheel feels loose as well.

My brother-in-law is a mechanic, he has been helping, but he is not an expert on these and has stated that many times.

Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=11401

Any advise is appreciated!

Exactly. Stabilizers are usually a band aid on a gunshot wound.

Re: Quadvan Upgrades/Modifications etc....

Great thread since suspensions in general have always interested me.

Two questions or comments though.......

Noticed there were no jack stands under the axles while working---that scares the bejesus outta me!

What sort of type of camera was used for the close up and underneath shots? Very nice photo work, beats the dickens out of my Nikon D70S of course that might be operator error too.
