question on a 2006 e350 roof rack

Howdy, i got myself a e350 2006 with an extended hi top (example picture below)
i had 2 questions

1. any thoughts on whether i'm going to have trouble mounting a rack (also any recommendations on a rack would be greatly appreciated, i intend to rock solar and need space for my kayak :P)

2. has anyone removed this hightop and replaced it with one of the sportsmobile ones? it seems optimal :P

Appreciate ANY advice
cheers!

Looks like a 'Contempo' top. I'm not aware of anyone that makes a rack for it, might have to go custom. Call Aluminess.

That said, there is a flat section that runs up the center that you could add solar to without a rack.

'Contempo' tops were used by Sportsmobile, but I assume you're asking about the taller flatter 'Voyager' tops. You could replace this, but it would probably cost more than a custom made rack.

You can go cheap and use high-mount contractor bars, which will clamp to the gutters and extend over the top.

Otherwise, Aluminess can make one that bolts directly to the top. This may require adding backers or inserts to the top, unless it was already built with wood backers. I prefer inserts. They hold better, won't allow water in. Click Bond, Inc.

carringb comes in to school me again.. I didn't think anyone made one tall enough, but looks like maybe they do.

Where are you located? Colorado Camper Van in Loveland has made some racks for these tops, not to mention on his own first van top made from this style top. Google em and give Derek a ring. His van is on the right of this page towards the bottom, the twisted up white one.
