I don't have the Aluminess gear, but I do have a rear door mounted spare. I have my camera mounted to the pop-top, about where the third brake light would be on later vans. It works well for backing and keeping an eye on my trailer, but isn't very useful as a rear-view mirror while driving because it has to be pointed downward at too steep an angle. I used 3M VHB tape to mount the bracket and it's been solid. Hardest part was running the wiring, but if you had a license plate camera you're already like 80% of the way there.
One issue I haven't solved to my satisfaction is backing at night in areas with little or no ambient light. I have an 18W LED utility light mounted under the rear bumper and connected to the reverse light circuit, but the camera image tends to wash out where the beam is brightest. I may just need a dimmer reverse light. Currently I'm using the GOAL method (Get Out And Look.)
