Rear camera with Aluminess Box and Tire Carrier
So I had a great working rear license plate camera on my E350 until I installed an Aluminess rear bumper/box/tire carrier, which completely blocks the camera. Has anyone here with the same setup found a good spot to mount the rear camera?

we mounted ours at the third brake light for a SMB top. i'll try to grab a photo tonight. it's the pioneer version which doesn't have the greatest resolution, but it affords a wide angle view of everything behind the van.

Rear camera with Aluminess Box and Tire Carrier
Depends on if you’re looking for a camera to help hook up a trailer or for just general backing view. We’re towing, so I opted to mount our camera low to give a better view when hooking up. Depends on your rear bumper too, this is on an E350 with a Reunel bumper, but I think you could mount something like this on a stock E350 rear bumper

I have my camera mounted to the license plate frame, Unfortunately its not ideal unless you are looking for it to function as REF describes above.
I also have the Aluminess box and a 35x12.5 Toyo on the back and will eventually move my camera (been telling myself that for two years now) to the third brake light location referenced by unreng...At least then I can gauge the proximity of the tire & box as I'm backing up - too often I've come extremely close to hitting something (namely trees & walls) with those two because I'm "guessing" the distance.

Ours is attached to the drip rail just above the rear doors. Gives a good rear view although the rear door occasionally taps it when opening and closing.

weld studs that are glued (chemlink M1) to the top.
a hole thru the angle and top to accept the wire seal.
aluminum angle that is bent to provide a good downward view of the rear.
Here's a nighttime view with the lights on the poptop turned on:

I have a GMC, but mine is mounted on the third brake light as well. One can see it in this photo:

SMB mounted ours to the underside of the deluxe box. No problems at all swinging the gate open.

I have 2003 E350 SMB Quigley 4X4, Aluminess Rear Bumper
After issues with trees jumping behind the Sportsmobile it was time for a rear view cam.
Purchased a Garmin with backup camera.
Powered by backup lights (when installing the Aluminess bumper we installed a manual on/off switch to the back up lights) so I can turn rear camera on at anytime)
Attached camera to Aluminess box.
Nice bright full view when backing.
Tree issues have vanished.

I don't have the Aluminess gear, but I do have a rear door mounted spare. I have my camera mounted to the pop-top, about where the third brake light would be on later vans. It works well for backing and keeping an eye on my trailer, but isn't very useful as a rear-view mirror while driving because it has to be pointed downward at too steep an angle. I used 3M VHB tape to mount the bracket and it's been solid. Hardest part was running the wiring, but if you had a license plate camera you're already like 80% of the way there.
One issue I haven't solved to my satisfaction is backing at night in areas with little or no ambient light. I have an 18W LED utility light mounted under the rear bumper and connected to the reverse light circuit, but the camera image tends to wash out where the beam is brightest. I may just need a dimmer reverse light. Currently I'm using the GOAL method (Get Out And Look.)
