I also had a easy/good experiance at Ca DMW took the van in the did a inspection of the interior.
handed me some new plates and that was it.
Also worth noteing, I intsalled a camper shell on my 2002 ford f250 and did the same thing with DMV............new plates and a much lower anual bill from DMV. the down side to the regestration for the truck is the camper shell must remain on the truck, so that may not work for everyone.

Did they ask about a toilet? Or did they not know what they were looking at? meaning, Oh, a bed, a stove. Must be an RV.
I had a pota poty sitting there when I opened the door.
Also My is not regesterd as a camper/motorhome, but as a pasenger veh. the big thing is to get it reclased from a comercial veh to something else. That removes the weight fee that Ca charges.
It saves me about $200 a year give or take,

My 2006 E350 passenger van costs $158 to register. I have standard, not commercial plates. Glad to hear you saved some $$$ .. might be just enough to top off the gas tank.
Yup, that was me .. like clockwork M-F. I drop my twins off at school, hop onto 280S then exit just past the 85 split to drop off the last one then across the street to work to look at hex numbers all day.
Print out form and bring other info. You will get new license plates and registered as a camper van with new title. No inspection, no requirements as far as I had in CA. You sign a form that states your vehicle has been changed to an RV/camper. I save $158/year.
Show up with all 3 "things" like you know what your are doing and you may be out in 5 minutes with no questions asked as I was.
