Alan, if you go back to the original Rusty build you can see how Sportsmobile builds and attaches cabinets to the floor and how the gaucho frame is made. I just rebuilt this one exactly like originals with 3/4" birch ply. It's a really long thread bud there are lots of pics in there of the SMB original stuff coming out and mine being rebuilt.

It’s a piece of thin flat steel bent in my bench vise. Sheet metal screwed to van body and gooped with sealant around the screws. Pretty basic and shoddily done actually.

The hood over it was to protect the camera from the sun after I baked a couple of them.
