Sink ideas

Something that I have never liked is the issue of needing to turn on the water pump, then remember to turn it off. I plan to use a submersible pump (jc Whitney sells one ), and just drop it into my square blue water jug that fits in the cabinet (that I still need to build). I am thinking that I will not have any valve at all, just an on/off switch, and remove the water jug to clean/fill it when needed. Comments?

Re: Sink ideas

I've been debating between water containers I can remove vs an installed tank. I couldn't "figure it out" completely, but I was thinking of some situation where I can move a ~5 gallon tank from the floor up high and use gravity to feed the water through my sink faucet.

I'm leaning towards an installed tank.. Right now I'm thinking 12 gallons, but I worry that won't be enough. I found a lot of well priced water tanks on eBay, but the shipping is kinda harsh. They make manual pump faucets that can be used with any tank... Like this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Leisure-Component ... KWVSTBUN5S

Then there's this "electric faucet" which I would think has a pump build in, but there's very little "description" and it shows that people bought it *with* a pump:

http://www.amazon.com/SHURflo-94-009-10 ... KWVSTBUN5S

I'm leaning towards "on demand" pumps on Amazon. I've never done this before, but from what I understand they work when you open the sink valve and shut off when you close it... so there's no need to turn the pump on/off. Here's one:

http://www.amazon.com/LF122202A-Automat ... KWVSTBUN5S

I've also been trying to figure out exactly what I want to do for the sink itself. I bought a $2 sink at a junk yard and planned on cutting a whole in a wooden top and dropping it in. But, the molded counter/sinks look so much better. I get messy around sinks and I think a molded sink would help keep spillage under control.

While hunting for a molded sink solution, I found this:
http://dwincorp.com/product_info.php?cP ... cts_id=350
and this:

The thinking is to use the molded sink and build it into the interior. The problem is $120/$150 is a lot more than the $2 junkyard sink.

Re: Sink ideas

Hi,
I use a small (2x6V) battery pack which is separate from all other electrical systems. It is linked to a pump in a "Jerry Can" style canister and switched by the tap (inbuilt switch in the tap).
No worries about battery drain, easy cleaning filling etc with removable tanks.

I also have a removable sink on the rear door. There I use a hand pump...

Re: Sink ideas

Since you asked for ideas, here's mine. Not built yet. Just planned.
Freshwater tanks. Three of them. 5 gal each.

Freshwater pump. Around $20 off ebay.

Kitchen sink. $5 - Walmart. I made sure it was big enough for my plates to fit inside before I bought it. Surprisingly heavy duty for the price.

I checked that Lowe's has the hardware for installing a drain in the bowl.

To control the water pump I'll install a large rocker switch like this:

I'll mount the switch low enough on the front of the sink cabinet so I can turn it on with my knee. That's why I'm using such a large switch. If my hands are dirty I can turn on the water without dirtying up the switch.

Re: Sink ideas

We have two 9 gallon fresh water tanks under our sink that are plumed together. The tanks feed a 1 amp 1 gpm pump. We find that adequate for our needs. The pump is turned on/off by a toggle switch (protected by a rubber boot) mounted by the faucet. We got all hardware from J.C. Whitney.

Here is a pic of our sink installation. We have a small plastic sink. Got on sale from General RV.

Re: Sink ideas

I have been looking for sink ideas and found one that looks ideal. I thought I would add it as a resource for future searchers. I plan to keep my Sportsmobile design as simple as possible eschewing any sort of holding tanks, pipes, pumps or winterizing; however, I will have a porta potty and would like an easy way to wash my hands after using it. These sinks manufactured in England by a company named TEAL are small, connect into the battery system to heat the water, and come in a variety of sizes and capacities.
