If that's the case, one concern I would have is that if you were in the backcountry, and your chassis batery failed, your CB and Ham radios wouldn't work, at least not without rewiring.

No, all 3 electrical systems separate. I would not rely on the Icom or CB for emergencies, they are more of a novelty, just enjoy listening to some chatter when I drive.

Re: SOCAL build
Did a leak test on the van last night. Went to a self serve power car wash and power washed around all the holes we cut in the van. Only one small leak on the big window, easily fixed. Glad I did that now I can finish up insulating.
Hoop II came in yesterday, easy install. Got these from http://www.carid.com, they sell them in a pair and individually so I bought 3 for $97.00 shipped. Easy install, took about 1.5 hrs and 2 beers to do all three.

Re: SOCAL build
Finally finished up the insulation last night. Caulked, Fat-Mat and insulated around all holes that I cut in the van, finished the last little spots I missed. Nice to have that done.
External battery box came in today and got a good chunk of the wire, connectors, shrink tube bought today as well.
Nice to see some of these projects coming to an end. I have one more hole to cut (shore power), finish up electrical and plumbing then off to stage 1 of the interior build.

Re: SOCAL build
All clips, bolts, holes etc.. line right up. Nice fit, no drilling.

Re: SOCAL build
Nice!
Are there factory frame holes for an additional battery box on the frame ie, two boxes?

Re: SOCAL build
I have not looked on drivers side but the holes are already drilled in the frame on the passenger side, very easy install. I bought it from Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/320625347192?it ... 60&vxp=mtr

I mounted two on the same side but had to drill several holes. Maybe 2 or 3 holes, the rest were there. I'm almost sure there is a spot on both sides for the boxes. I wanted mine mounted in the same side.
