Re: The Fun Bus

An ATV motorcycle jack works awesome, but your tray itself sure makes me feel bad about my final product:

And that was before it was cut and welded one more time on each piece, and spot painted white to add to the mottled salvage look!

The Fun Bus

I started a few of these mods before now, After I bought the van in Feb. Slowly catching up with my posting and picture up loads. I'm trying to keep the order correct.

Re: The Fun Bus

Ok, well its been a while, since I have uploaded any progress. Although a small ski accident and ensuing ACL and Meniscus surgery did slow me down a bit. Still in a locking leg brace, (straight while weight bearing) makes for slow moving.
After my L4 battery went in, I took the van to local awesome audio shop (Mobile Innovations) we rewired stereo and DVDs to all run off house system, installed a Blue Sea ACR, second fuse block, relays and an inverter.
So today second and third swivel bases with toyota sienna seats go in behind driver and passenger.
I actually built the passenger swivel pre injury.
The back two where a slow process, but I needed them to be bombproof.
Hopefully this week my floor can go in.
Thank goodness for this forum, what a wealth of info.
Pictures and more to follow, once I pry my iphone out of my daughters hands.

Re: The Fun Bus

I have an old retired digital that is my shop camera... fingers dirty, grinding metal in the area, no problem. Also nobody borrows it to play Angry Birds.

Re: The Fun Bus

So... Out came the church van seats, the carpet and most of the back wall panels.
While all this was out i fabricated two swivel seat bases for toyota Sienna middle row seats with integrated belts.
The bases were drawn in google sketch up and my local water jet shop did a great job cutting the 1/4" plate beautifully, with as many of the holes hitting stock seat mounts. The bottom is a little long toward the back so that the washers land on the next cross member. To that weld on some 6" pipe x1/4" and another nice circle plate, again perfect water cut.
Instead of a lazy suzan noisy ball bearing, I used a circle of 3/8 PTFE ( ie: cutting board and a touch of grease) perfect.

Re: The Fun Bus

Yesterday we got both of the second row seats installed (finally) . Wife and kids are excited.
With the bench seats finally out we started with the foil bubble foil to the floor. Small strips glued in all of the voids between the ribs. Next, 1/2" hard foam and 1/2" plywood. Then grey coin flooring. Progress !!!!

Re: The Fun Bus

Just made a horrifying revelation. the bolt anchors in the floor that my 3 rows of benches were mounted with are NOT 1/2". They are Metric. 12x1.75, hmm time to return a bunch of really cool grade 8 tapered head bolts.

the seatbelt mounts are metric also. i haven't done too much mechanical work on my van but the only SAE hardware i found is on the oil drain plug. i don't recall the lug nut size off the top of my head...
