No holes from the running boards. They had frame mounted supports that bolted up to the running boards.
This answer your question?

Slow going but I've finally started in on the bumpers. Still need to rebuild the transmission with the new output shaft for the transfer case but I'll get to that soon enough.
For now it's bumper time.

I have a lot of finish welding to do and then some paint. Did the rear one too but neglected to take any photos... but it's far from finished.

So the deeper into the van hole I go these old style bodies are starting to grab my attention. Something about them and especially as clean as yours is just looks so good.
It's like an old ford vs the new ones, just so much more character.

So anyway, Nice Rig!

Apperently I set off the deadly spam killer robot... And Admin Lori fixed it. Thank you!
Anywhos, still plugging away at it. Gonna continue working on the rear one tomorrow.
The front turned out pretty well I think.

Mostly done. I have a hitch I'm going to mount that bolts to the frame and the underside of the bumper. The trailer light plug and the air chuck in the big holes in the bumper.
