Re: The Zombie Van Build (feat. REDOVAL)

Here's my reluctant helper sawing off the front of the running board.

Annnnnd we have clearance, Clarence!

Driving the Zombie Van down to Scott's place 20 miles away proved the clearance was enough.

Next season, fender flares and nerf bars!

Re: The Zombie Van Build (feat. REDOVAL)

Got some work done on the rear doors. The window trim we used is common with the Sportsmobile crowd and allows the use of tension shades. They will be painted to match better as the build progresses. I installed the rear Pioneer 6x8 4 way speakers and the rear view camera as well.

Re: The Zombie Van Build (feat. REDOVAL)

Side door window trim installed as well as the speaker. Oddly enough, there was no wiring for this speaker even though the driver's side middle speaker has the wiring.

Re: The Zombie Van Build (feat. REDOVAL)

Continuing with the door mods I installed the front speaker on the passenger side. Similar to the driver's side front door, this one was sound deadened by the previous owner as well.

Re: The Zombie Van Build (feat. REDOVAL)

Restoring this van back to its previous glory involves replacing all the broken bits and high wear items. The passenger side knee panel (lower dash panel) mounting plate was missing as well. Now the plastic trim can be solid and not flop around while driving.

More damaged bits replaced. This time it's the rear door handle assembly. The original unit had so much wear it only worked if you pulled the handle really hard (why the mounting plate broke in the first place).

Re: The Zombie Van Build (feat. REDOVAL)

We were able to find an OEM rear carpet pull-out from a local van parts supplier. The installation went great and the added looks and comfort, not to mention sound suppression, is worth the work.

Re: The Zombie Van Build (feat. REDOVAL)

A big part of this project is repairing the damage caused by neglectful previous owners and sub-par shop work. All of the interior panels of this van were tossed in without any of the clips lining up correctly and missing almost all of the fasteners. The panels rattled a lot so the shop stuffed a detailing rag in the rub area to keep it quiet. It was also missing the middle speaker mount behind the driver's seat so we scooped one up and bolted it in (also took the blurriest photo of the bunch just for fun!)

Re: The Zombie Van Build (feat. REDOVAL)

.Scott noted some odd wiring tricks:

Unfortunately, this does not seem to be unusual. I had an alarm installed by one of the biggest sellers of car stereos and accessorys in the country, with stores all over the West. That's exactly how they did the install, wires through holes, rubbing on sharp edges, no support, and when I pulled the dog house, all the wires dropped out and were hanging down into the engine compartment. Even more amazingly, they installed a hidden fuel cut off relay that was just left hanging by the wires and was banging around in the kick panel. WTF? In the last two years, I have learned that if you want it done right, you damn near have to do it all yourself. About the only thing I have subbed out succesfully was the exhaust manifold studs, spark plugs and all Ramsey's work. Everything else has had issues. If only I had more time .........

Looks good!

Where did you get the rubberized door trim that fits around the rear doors?
