ThermoTec "Suppressor" Heat and sound barrier matting
After much research I recently bought this product to apply to several areas around the dog house, under the floor of the cab and on the heat shield next to exhaust pipe running past the transfer case. I applied the product as directed after thorough cleaning of the areas with alcohol to remove any dirt or oil.
This matting is a foil backed 70 mil thick material that is very sticky. It's a peel and stick type application suggested for areas needing a heat and and/or sound barrier such as fire walls and floors.
It doesn't work. If the adhesive gets hotter than 300deg. it melts and releases.
I contacted Thermotec and was told the product should not be applied upside down! Nowhere in the instructions is this mentioned.
I now have a black sticky coating everywhere the mat failed and ThermoTec says the only way to get it off is with a torch and a putty knife. Nice!
If you intend to use this product I suggest you avoid any areas ThermoTec mentions for possible application. Only put it where it never gets hot and don't put it on a vertical surface or underneath your van.
