It would move the wheels and tires out. I don't know that you can add wider tires and wheels with the inside farther in, if that makes sense. If you do, there are potential rubbing issues on the suspension.

+28 to 0 offset would move the wheel out about an inch. With the 1.5 inch wider tire, the tire will be .25” farther out on the inside and about 1.75” on the outside. You have to be careful with tire rub on the control arms and brake line/ABS wire at steering lock. I have had some issues with brake line and ABS wire rubbing on the passenger side, the line/wire needs to be positioned carefully. I wouldn't go with more positive offset with wider tires than what I have personally. Let me find a photo to post.

Anyone ever ran 2558516s? I will frequently be going thru 6-12" of snow and 6-8" rocks offroad, occasional deep sand on roads. Harder to get if I'm stuck at a rural shop. Only .3 inches less than 2857017 if I can assume .5" gain with the 17 rim. 2857516 would be same as 255

I can't find a steel in 17" with 0 offset, 4 back spacing. Did find 17x9 with -12 OS 4 bs. Discount Tire rep estimated it would stick out 1.5 ". There was also 0 OS with 5 bs. How much would that stick out? I think I don't want to go more than 1" If that. Thank you very much for any help
Also, found this calculator for position that includes offset but not bs. Doesn't bs matter?

wvuboy44, thats why I went with factory 17" takeoffs. With my sliding door I didn't want interference. The factory wheels place the tires even with the fender, not past it.

While offset and backspacing basically measure the same thing, at the same time they are very different. Offset measures the distance between the wheel center and the mounting surface and backspace measures the distance between the mounting face and the inside edge.

The 0 OS and 5 BS 9” wide tire should stick out a little more than mine. Same 0 OS with a wider wheel.

I’m not an expert on this stuff. I know you want steel wheels, but... my old stock steel wheels were 7” wide I believe (could have been 8 though) with 245 tires. You might go with a taller tire on stock steel wheels. I’m sure there are many in junk/salvage yards. Otherwise a stock 17” might make sense as shadetreevanman mentioned. You could see if the 255s will work on a 7” wide wheel.

Looks like LT255/85R16 will fit on 6.5-8” wide wheels. Those tires are about 33” in diameter.
