Garage
If the old style of Sportsmobile propane doors are no longer available, you may consider looking at different styles of Marine Deck access doors - Just a thought.

Progress made

I finished the mounts, and cut the opening through both walls of the body sheet metal to create an opening. I also trimmed out the opening for the access door. Measure, cut, grind, fit, weld, grind, rinse and repeat

Resurrecting this thread from the dead; after 8 months off doing other things (reviving a Bridgeport Mill, preparing a car for Bonneville speed trials, rebuilding a flatbed car trailer, and my day job keeping me very busy) I started back on replumbing both fuel tanks, and the 7 gallon Manchester propane tank addition. I stopped in May after faring in the welded area with short-strand Marglass, and addressing some of the surface rust under the van with a wire wheel, acid and chassis black paint. Ugh.

fast forward to this past weekend; I have the plumbing needed (do you ever really have all the fittings? no...) the propane tank in place for it's final time. I now have a donor body panel from which to make a folding door.

I have several different door designs rattling around in my head, I just need to pick one and move!

I decided on a hinged frame covered by a skin.

Below is the borrowed section from a wrecking yard donor van.

Progress on the door frame

parking brake cable mod

The parking brake cable bracket was in the way, so I drilled a new hole closer to the frame, trimmed the bracket away to make room for the tank.

The tank is in for (I think) the last time
