Undercarriage tire support brace

Hi, I plan on installing a Aluminess tire carrier on my E250 Quigley.
I was wondering if the tire support brace which is attached to the chassis can be removed so I can use the space for storage. I don't believe it is structurally needed especially since I have a rear hitch. Has anyone done this. Thanks Lenny

Yes, best way is get out your sawzall and a good metal blade. Very difficult to drill out the rivets, way easier to just cut it out.

I can vouch for that. Except I left my dang sawzall at a buddies house so I used a cutting wheel on a grinder, but my jigsaw was tearing it up until I broke my last blade. The shower of sparks was impressive from the cut off wheel. Sawzall and a couple-three blades.

Forget trying to drill and hammer chisel the rivets.

I don't think there is anything structural you will miss with the hitch and the cross member there. Should be good to go.

Thanks, that's what I thought. I guess a good pair of goggles will be in order.
