Solar setup:

Hi Boywonder,

I am using a Goal Zero Yeti 1250 to power the house. It uses a Group 31, 12V, 100Ah battery then I have it chained to a VMax MR127 12 volt 100Ah AGM deep cycle SLA maintenace free battery. The goal zero has a built in charge controller, so no need for one. I am using 2 Renogy 100 watt 12 volt monocrystalline solar panels.

This is a great build. Nice quality and well thought-out.

I’m doing something very similar - sans couch/bed - with my 350 passenger. I have 2 questions I hope you’ll answer:

1 - It appears from your pics that you kept the original trim all around. Did you attach your cabinets to the van sides? If so, how? Any pics? Any insulation in there?

2 - Your Yeti system is simplified and interesting. Are you still happy with it? Does it still provide you with the power you need?

Thanks in advance!

I did pull some of the trim behind the cabinets so I could get the cabinets a little closer to the driver’s side wall and I also did a cutout where the gas fill was. I insulated it with Dynamat and Dynapad and we also use some pink insulation from Home Depot. I bought bolts from McMaster Carr and went right through the bottom of the cabinets through the floor right into the frame using the original seat mount holes. As far as the gold zero I loved it. It was basically plug-and-play it had a built-in inverter, solar controller everything was in it and I chained it to another battery as you can see in the pictures. I live in Southern California and never had a problem with power most of my camping was done in the west. I did sell the van about a year ago and I now have a new rig a Four Wheel Camper on a Ford F350 diesel truck.
