Re: What sealant to use for a window?

Here are the 3m data sheets for your comparison. one is a fast curing urethane the other is non-hardening and stays pliable . http://multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/1076 ... -08609.pdf http://multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/1076 ... 08509x.pdf

Re: What sealant to use for a window?

Ah ok. I see that now. Didn't realize that was the difference. I thought it might be just different viscosities or something.

Is the pliable option better for this application because it allows easier replacement in the future? The other thing I'm thinking is that maybe it will compensate better for the different thermal expansion/contraction rates of the materials used?

But I would imagine that the fast curing urethane would hold the window more securely and the window would vibrate less (less possibility for future leaks)?

Or maybe I'm just way out to lunch on all of this. I've never used either material and I've never cut in a window so I do appreciate the experience of the users here on the forums.

I too have worked in the autoglass industry for years...
I'll second JWA's advice.
take it or leave it, it's sound.

Unfortunately and without offense some DIY's disregard pro advice, instead going the way they believe is best in spite of experience speaking. If its something they want to hear then its good---if not its ignored.

That's one reason I backed away from this thread almost immediately.

BTW thanks BBasso!
