1985 e-150

60 miles from SMB North "real wood, not cheap particle board". no affiliation. a retiree's 3 year project - looks appealing

1985 Ford E150 Custom SPORTSMOBILE Class B Camper Van, Garagable T-TOP | eBay

This custom camper van features new custom made cabinetry manufactured from real wood, not cheap particle board. There are lots of storage cabinets and drawers. The interior has been completely renovated and redone. New carpet, new backseat/bed cushions, new 12/120 volt refrigerator, new stove with two 16,000 BTU burners, new sink, new water pump, new fresh and gray water tanks, new swing out table, new Captains chairs for the driver and passenger, and a new stereo radio CD player. Numerous 110 and 12 volt outlets have been installed.

A unique feature of this camper van is the pop up T-TOP. When closed you can actually park this van in your garage. This van will comfortably sleep four adults, two down and two up. Included are custom made reflective window covers for privacy and to keep the sun's heat out.
The exterior of this camper has a new paint job. There is no rust or body damage. It rides on four new tires and has a new spare tire cover. It has two fuel tanks.

This camper is based on a 1985 Ford E-150 Van with a 302 CID V8 engine with a 4 speed automatic transmission. It has power steering and power brakes. For reliability the mechanics of this vehicle have been gone over and updated or replaced. New deep cycle battery, complete tune up, new 100 amp alternator, new carburetor, new fuel pump, new hoses and vacuum lines, and new brakes on all four wheels. The air conditioner has new Freon in it and works great. The odometer reads 28,138 which I assume is a rollover. All gauges, lights, heater, blower, air conditioning, etc. work.

I really like the look of that thing!
Great color.

Sidebar question:
What's the count of the most Sportsmobiles that any of you "camper van horse traders" have had simultaneously owned and parked in your driveway, all at the same time?

Just FYI - this guy did the interior conversion himself. It's not actually SMB, except for the top.

Anyone know anything about this engine/model year? Seems like MPG would be horrid.

I have an 87. MPG's not great. I have a dual tank, so I just don't look at the cost at the pump, base my perception on how many times I fill up, and I feel just fine.

I'm very jealous of the condition of his dash.

That's an impressive home built interior. That's the selling point, no doubt.

If you compare any camper van (besides the newest Sprinters or Transits) to any other modern car then yes, fuel economy will be 'horrid'. The numbers Mike posted above, which were about what I figured, aren't horrid to me at all. Better than a V10 and about the same as a 5.4 or similar newer v8 powerplant. Also, the tried and true 302 Ford is about as tough as they come, having been proven over and over in Mustangs for generations.
