Re: 1987 SMB in Bishop, CA

I talked to owner about this van. He said he didn't know if there was a Limited Slip Differential; who knows whether that is even a possibility with this year and type of van?

Thanks
Stephanie

Isn't limited slip possible with almost any "pumpkin"? (I don't know for sure, but that's what I've always thought). I thought they were about $100 plus install. Could easily be wrong though.

You could check wether it came with factory limited slip by checking the door tag on the drivers side. There is an axle code which tells you what gear ratio and whether it is a limited slip differential.

As far as adding an aftermarket one, you definitely can, but it costs much more than $100. I think they're around $400-$500 plus the labor of installing it. The $100 units are usually mini spools which locks both axles full time. Good for drag racing, but not for street use.

He gave me the axle codes -- not Limited Slip but I might look at it anyway as he may travel closer to where I am next week. still looking.
