Good price on a 4x4 van

Wow, that's in great shape! That interior takes me back to '96 alright! Can someone enlighten me as to how this sleeps 4?

My neighbor has finally caved and admitted that it's time for a 4x4 van so his mobility challenged wife can get out of the house, so I'm showing him nearly everything that pops up.

I think the 2nd row seats fold flat, so when you spin the front seats around, you end up with a pair of single beds.

So I wasn't looking for a new van... but I find this one has piqued my interest.

As it sits, though, it looks like a bit of a project. Has anybody gone through the process to remove a generator and/or roof AC?

I hate hate hate gen-sets (a personal thing) and would rather pull that bad boy out and replace with a battery bank + solar of equivalent weight. AC won't see any use either, so I'd like to recover that weight too.

I figure a lot of patching needed for the roof, but not sure about how to start the Generator-ectomy.

Whats to patch on the roof? When you remove an RV style air conditioner it leaves a hole the same size as your typical 14x14 fantastic fan. Just remove the A/C and drop in a fantastic vent fan. If you goto the link provided in the craiglist ad (wowwoodys.com) it clearly states that it does not have a generator.

That's sort of what I was hoping, but wasn't sure if I'd end up needing to get fancy and make a large hole into a smaller hole.

Not a 5.4l. This van is pre Triton. It's a 5.8l Windsor. A thirsty and bulletproof motor, probably not much more peppy than a 5.4l but it is plenty strong for it's size.

No theres nothing to patch. I think alot of people assume theres a huge hole under those A/C units, its just a standard 14x14 vent fan hole, the mounting bolts drop threw that same 14x14 hole and screw into a metal retaining bracket inside the van, when you tighten the bolts it pulls the A/C down against its foam gasket and snugs the bracket against the roof inside. They are simple to remove and install, the hardest part is getting it up on the roof or getting it down off once removed. The one i removed i just chucked off onto the ground, LOL, then i tossed it in the dumpster.
