2002 4x4 7.3 RB - up again (Oregon) - 40k

Guess making it "available for sale" the first time didn't work - original ad a couple of months ago. They did update with better pics, but same asking price $40,000. Being from the east coast, the "surface/rusting" on the bumpers would make me run (i.e. even worse underneath). Is this just a case of poor quality finishes on that particular brand of bumper as the body "looks" very clean? Does the NW salt the roads in winter?

I would suspect Bend does salt their roads, given their colder climate (vs. Seattle, where freezing and salting road isn't common). I may recall seeing the plow station on my way to Bend, but that's a stretch of my memory!

I'd guess that is beach salt rust, not road salt

They mostly use crushed volcanic rock over the passes and around Bend. I don't think they ever use salt.

Other than a couple of areas where they are testing the use of Salt on the roadways, Oregon does not use Salt. The areas that are being tested are the 5 over Siskiyou Pass, and the US 95 between Nevada and Idaho. I don't think that test started until 2012.

Off topic: I just got back from Bend and drove through pretty crappy weather/road conditions on Saturday night. Spun out but saved it and saw a couple other cars/trucks in the ditches. I can honestly say I will never go up to Bend again during this part of the year without 4 wheel drive. My 2wd van cant hang.

I didn't say I would only go up in a 4x4 Van, although that would have been ideal seeing as how I slept in my van 2 of the 3 nights on this trip.
