2006 SMB diesel - repo

.. having my morning coffee and surfing. Don't know the seller, never seen the vehicle. Its a repo and the seller appears to be disclosing all that he knows or can find. Could be good candidate but buyer beware as it is a repo.

Bidding closes at Jun 29, 2014 19:43:17 PDT. Current bid is $18K at 0730am Pacific time.

Re: 2006 SMB diesel - repo

You can tell there's been some interior water damage to some cabinets, and it looks like the undercarriage has a fresh coat of paint, and it looks like the rims (and hubs) were hit with some paint as well. In some of the pics, you can see some rust on the interior side of the rims.

Water damage, rust, and that rack make me thing this rig spent a lot of time at the beach. Great price at least right now though.

Re: 2006 SMB diesel - repo

I think it has major water damage, as in might have been flooded. Probably freshwater. The website listed on the back up top (decals that were removed) is www.rivergypsies.com, which is a kayak guiding company. They have pictures of the rig with kayaks loaded on top. Also if you look at the winch on the front it appears to be filled with mud.

Probably a good rig if you can get it cheap and don't mind putting in work and possibly chasing electrical gremlins.

Re: 2006 SMB diesel - repo

"repo" is short for repossession. In this case the van is likely owned by the lender and for whatever reason the person in possession of the van stopped making payments or was unable to make payments. Typically the lender hires an outfit that will repossess the van. (They'll hotwire the thing or place the van onto a flatbed trailer and "repossess" the van since it belongs to the lender.)

In this case the lender is selling the van .. as you can see from the description there's some water damage and we don't know the overall condition of the van. You might get lucky or you might get unlucky if there are lots of unknown problems, especially electrical ones.

To me the sold price seems fair given the amount of unknowns in the van. There's money spent on the Aluminess bumpers .. for someone who can spend the time going through the van thoroughly it could be a decent value. For a lot of us we don't have that much time, unfortunately.

Hope this helps™,
Ray
