Best platforms for selling

Now that I've got a better handle on pricing, I've been researching options online to list HellBetty for sale but I'm still not clear on best platforms for this. Selling a car not nearly this daunting! Now if I only had a dollar for each time someone has told me (in person) that they would buy my van in a heartbeat if she was diesel - riiiiight

Say I want to post a link to a sale ad here and on FTE.... I looked into some sites suggested to me on forum here, such as Bring a Trailer and Cars&Bids, ebay, craigslist.

Bring a Trailer looked like mostly collector vehicles (tho I imagine there's an ebb and flow).

Cars & Bids is free to seller (fees paid by the buyer). THey also noted that
auctions with no reserve go better and they have to approve the listing.

Maybe I was feeling overwhelmed but I still could not tell what an ebay auction commission maybe - anyone summarize that for me?

Thank you, kind Van gurus!

Here and Expedition Portal (ExPo) are my recommendations, though you might need a thicker skin on ExPo. There can be a lot of keyboard warriors over there who like to criticize rigs and especially their asking prices.

I've bought and sold on BAT, CAB, and eBay. eBay is awful as bidders are often scammers or have no money. BAT is legit but you need to be active in the chat and ready to disclose everything and have 150 pictures to have a hot auction. CAB is a clone of BAT but the audience is a bit more reserved. Same story though of be active and provide lots of details and receipts. Neither site has been great for van conversions sales IMO

If all of that is daunting then list locally on Craigslist for $5.

Why are you not considering vanlifetrader.com ?

Also I've seen you express difficulty with this before. Perhaps this isn't your thing and you should do a consignment?

I'm certainly no expert on selling vehicles on-line, but I did purchase a SMB off this site about 3 years ago... Why over complicate things? I'd post it right here and see if it sells. If you don't find a purchaser, list it on Craig's list or possibly a local (to you) Facebook classified group. You could also try Facebook Marketplace and enhance the listing by paying a few extra $s to increase it's visibility. I personally find Facebook (if you go with a local market place group) better then Craig's list simply because it lessons the anonymity and people act a little more responsible.

BTW, I sold two separate vehicles this summer with positive results one each through Craig's list and a local Facebook classified group.

Best of luck with your listing!

I have no idea about selling a vehicle via listing to a national site however I'd think here or FTE would be good choices. In all honesty I don't "do facebook", have never used or even seen the other sites you mention AnnieO so cannot and will not comment about them.

As much a nightmare as Craig's List can be it has great local coverage albeit too many tire kickers, scammers and foolish negotiators which I'm sure you know already. I limit my Craig's List contacts to voice calls only---no emails, no text messages etc. We can tell a lot about a person simply speaking with them. If someone is truly interested in knowing more about your vehicle they will NOT be discouraged or dissuaded by such minor requirements.

Set a fair price, make it known you're firm on it and let them come to you. IF you're willing to negotiate downward a bit do that ONLY in person while they're looking or actually driving it. Should they make an acceptable offer give them a definite time to close the deal otherwise the negotiation would have to be done once again.

I wish I could be more helpful directing you to a reliable site for such a sale. If you're considering eBay do an advanced search for 4x4 vans that have already been sold, note their prices whether sold at an auction or Buy It Now offering. You could contact eBay with a theoretical selling price and what their fees would be when all totaled up.

Good luck with this---I know you're anxious to sell HellBetty and end an era.

Thank you Herb- Sorry for delay, spent most of week with my friend who has a very ill husband.

I take your sage advice and will post here and ExPo, keyboard warriors and all. Yah, this forum has an awesomely high percentage of upstanding members!

Hey JW- I like that rule book for CL sales- and I mean ReALLY like it. Google voice number is READY.

As far as anxious to sell- No. No i am not- bite your tongue!! I love her- Too many awesome memories with Hellbetty, friends and family. But it's all good!

Except for test driving other vehicles. I have to say, HellBetty has been one of the most reliable vehicles I have ever owned

Hi Steve, and thanks! I actually bought HellBetty from a forum referral to an ad for her. So many great connections here! People have been most friendly, patient and eager to share info.

I guess I sold my last 2 cars via CL...? honestly I only remember the people not the ads. Now I'm going to go look at your profile and see what van you ended up with!

Hi there- thanks for that input. I have ruled out ebay.I saw no similar vehicles on CAB so ruled that out.

I was not familiar with vanlifetrader so will look into that. Part of my challenge was knowing what pricing is trending. I may have missed a higher market tolerance (higher prices) but its ok.

Also I had to stop reading all the technical and spec-heavy posts and listings, and get more confident with the process... which I am now. Great to have the support here!
