A beefy axle that doesn't require spacers.

I didn't think they put the D70s in the E450, only the 350 and the 450 got a beefier D80.
They didn't say what the ratio was, that would be nice to know but at that price not as important.

Starting in 2004 I think, they went to the current hybrid axle. It's a Dana 80 housing, with the Dana 70 ring and pinion. Except in 2007 they upgraded from a 10.5" ring gear to a 10.75" ring gear, which does limit locker and limited slip options.

All E450s gas motor have 4.56 gears (with the exception of the true Dana 80s, prior to 2004 which have 4.63 gears). All diesels came with 4.10 gears.

The E450 axle is wide. It's 10" wider than a Sterling F-series axle. So it's not really a good candidate for a non-dually, unless you want the mega-offset look like those Iceland snow rigs have. And if you did that, you'd probably want the wide-track front axle from an F450, so that front/rear track widths match.

Note: This gen axle also doesn't have parking brake provisions.
