You guys just need larger gas tanks

On our trip from Virginia to Oklahoma, our 2004 V10 had a worst tank of 12.7 mpg and best of 13.8. It’s an EB 350 with quigley 4wd and a 2’ extended high roof. I thought that was pretty good for a rolling brick.

I agree...that is stellar!
Definitely don't see that kind of fuel consumption numbers with my RB 5.8L (lifted 2WD on 33's....)

Primarily due to air drag, fuel efficiency (especially for a brick like an Econoline) drops off exponentially fast when speeds climb much above 50 mph.

My van gets around 11 mpg on a trip, but when we go somewhere, we're usually "hauling the mail," so to speak....driving between 75 and 80 mph on average. I have no doubt that the van would likely deliver closer to 14 mpg (or better) if we trundled along at a more President-Carter-era speed limit of 55 or 60, however.

I too "haul the mail" and get 11 mpg. 3.73 gears, 285's. I got 13 when the van was empty and 2WD. Dropped down to about 10.5, then the 5 star tune got me back up. I like winding it out.
