Re: Hoping for advice on used 1995 2WD SMB

Congrats!

Jage and Mike are correct on the excessive battery draw on a 3-way vs. compressor fridge. A relative had a Eurovan and when the fridge was operated on 12v while driving it would actually put the house battery in a state of discharge by the time they got to their destination because the alternator couldn't keep up with all of the power demands. You should be fine - just turn it off when the engine isn't running for longer periods of time to be safe.

Enjoy your first trip, and we'll keep an eye out for you in Oregon!

Are you going to hold out to buy Les Scwab tires? I hope you keep us posted on your future travels. I am in the market for some kind of van for travel. I'd love to know how much you use your van and what kind of experience you have with it.

Congrats! I just bought a 1992 EB, and I'm sorting out all the little non-working parts. Ditto on getting new E rated tires. I'm getting http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...yp=Truck%2FSUV this weekend.

I went back and forth on EB versus RB, but you find what you find. I'm sure I'll love the extra space in the EB, but I live in urban Los Angeles, and parking has been a bit of a bear.

Backup cameras are amazing if you don't have one. No help if the spot is just too small, but being able to back up another two feet without worry is priceless in many situations.

Or sometimes, even with a backup camera, somehow you still can manage to back into the side of your garage door. Conceptually, of course. Not that I've done that recently...

Not even a full day after the camera on my SMB we got a nice red gouge in the Aluminess from the trailer hitch.

The flip there are actually people who truly believe backup cameras should not be used because you might depend on them- I got a lot of flack on another forum for simply tilting the camera on my Taco so I could see an actual field behind me: something besides the bumper and half a screen of tailgate that is the OEM configuration. I decided I probably won't mention when I make the mod to have the camera on all the time.
